Pompeii, more Naples and Ciao Italia

After enjoying Sorrento, it was time for us to make our way back to Naples via Pompeii. We hopped on our train - fortunately with no rain and got off at the Pompeii Scavi station. Just across the station, was the entrance to the ruins of Pompeii.
We dropped off our mega backpacks in the cloak room and began exploring. The ruins here were huge and we used Rick Steve’s audio guide for a good portion of it. So much to see and explore. It blew my mind as to how far we have come. Science has advanced enough that we can now track volcanic activity and know a little bit before if an explosion is impending. In 79AD, the inhabitants did not even know that Vesuvius was a volcano. Anyway here are some pics of the ruins.

We shared a granola bar and some oranges and got on our train to Naples for our last night there. This time, the downpours held off and after checking into our Airbnb we got to roam the streets of Naples. It’s a quaint city that is all lit up for Christmas now and we spent a few hours just strolling. Caught some delightful coffee at a place called Sansone (good enough that we picked up beans). Dinner (after not eating much all day) was a fantastic Neapolitan pizza and a fritte de pasta which was delicious - highly recommend Pavia for a home run delicious experience.

And finally, we just got to Madrid. We spent this morning catching another dramatic view of Vesuvius at the Bay of Naples and then headed to the airport.

And that’s it from this Italian trip. Catch you up soon on what we are upto in Madrid! P.S. I wasn’t kidding about the backpacks.
