Adiós España + Bonjour Marrakech = still having fun

December 4, 2017
YESTERDAY Ok. I'm going to start with an admission. Yesterday when I still had a mild cough and had to find lunch somewhere, I had a few hours of missing home terribly. Traveling alone is fun and I'm definitely pushing myself out of my comfort zone but socializing with strangers is also exhausting. I was craving some time to just relax with someone I know. So what did I do? I spent my last day in Seville (and in Spain) sitting on the river with a dove for company and just reading my book. Before I knew it, three hours had passed and I felt refreshed again. Still have that tiny tinge of missing home (that comfortable rhythm I've gotten used to) but I felt ready for another week of fun. Here's a fun picture from the river yesterday. The fisherman in the background kept catching fish, took a picture or showed someone what he caught, and then threw the fish back into the river 😊 If you remember, I had shared pictures from a flamenco show in Barcelona. Well, Seville is the birthplace of Flamenco and so I had to go to a show here. I went with some people from the hostel to the Flamenco dance museum and the show was amazing (no pics allowed). The intensity of the dance and singing still surprises me. TODAY I said Goodbye to Spain this morning. I had a great time here. Learned so much about a different culture, immersed myself in history I wasn't familiar with, ate some good food, and met people from so many different places - Switzerland, Germany, Australia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, UK, San Francisco, New York, Argentina, Uruguay, Ukraine, of course Spain, and I'm probably forgetting a few. Yesterday I even met a newly minted criminal lawyer from Switzerland (super cool). The timing was great too with everyone prepping for Christmas and some awesome lights everywhere. Here's a small peak of it from different places in Spain. Got on my flight today and landed straight in my past. Coming into Marrakech took me right back to my childhood in Kuwait. This is how my ride from the airport went. My airport pickup brought me to the old town where someone picked me up on a scooter (I tried not to topple backwards with my backpack 😉) bringing me to the Riad. We drove through streets that were packed with people. I then went out to roam and stuck to the tourist areas. I visited the souk which reminded me of markets in Kuwait combined with linking road in Mumbai. Loud, crowded, lots of people calling me sister and trying to convince me to buy stuff. Did I buy anything? Nope. Firstly, I have no place left to carry anything. Secondly, I know that without a local, my odds at succeeding with bargaining was low. I went out with some girls for dinner then - safer to travel in groups - and I tried out some chicken tagine. It was unbelievably good. I'm going to go back to enjoying Kuwait (oops, Marrakech) while staying safe now. (Updated with pics) I did have some good pictures from Marrakech to share but the internet connection is miserable here so I will add more pictures later.
