Finally in Binsar Valley

So we headed to the Mumbai airport at 4AM to catch our flight to Delhi. The flight was an IndiGo one which is apparently currently facing the same notoriety as United for bullying it's passengers. The newest joke I heard was "Fear of heights is vertigo, fear of flights is IndiGo". Surprisingly the flight was actually pretty good and uneventful.
We reached the Delhi airport and were met by the driver we booked for our drive to Binsar Valley in Uttarakhand. My sweet mother in law came by the Delhi airport to meet us and brought us an enormous bag of food for the trip. This was a lifesaver for us. Read on to find out why.
It was so good to see her earlier than planned. After a good hug and a quick see you soon, we got on the road. Here are some pics from the road - pics from the car, snacking on chikki, and our chai stop.
To entertain ourselves, my mom and me started playing 20 questions. At one point she bet me a 100 rupees if I correctly guessed the word she was thinking of. I was so close to losing when I wisened up and recruited the help of my uncle with an offer to split the prize. Got to the right answer at question 20. Phew 😓. My winnings are definitely gonna buy me something good!
I won't talk too much more about our "short" drive to Binsar (12 hours straight with only two 30 minute stops for chai). The trip consisted of some lost roads, rallies and campaigns we drove past, a small accident where the car grazed an improperly parked car (don't worry, everyone is OK) and a lot of good views towards the end. Our driver was really good and stayed calm the whole way.
The driving style in India is so entertaining. They have narrow two way roads. Everyone mostly just drives through the middle and moves left or right to let others pass. There is an understanding among all drivers that nobody is expected to drive within their boundaries and they somehow manage to find a weird kind of harmony in the chaos.
When we saw the resort sign at 9PM, there was an audible sigh of relief in the car. The travel exhaustion had gotten to everyone. Remember my mention of the enormous food packet from my mother in law? That food - parathas of cauliflower and radish, homemade mango pickle, and yogurt filled the tummies of five very hungry and tired travelers (plus our probably exhausted driver).
I'm off to bed now and will hopefully have some beautiful pictures from Binsar Valley to share tomorrow. Good night from Uttarakhand!
P.S. This pic of a moody Phoenix missing me that Harneet sent was too cute to not share.
